From what I understand, the Mayans didn't predict the world would end on 12/21/12. The Mayans created a very accurate calendar that "rolled over" and continued. One (or many) of them must have spent a great deal of time hammering out of stone a calendar that went all the way until 12/21/12. They probably got in trouble for sitting around playing with the hammers and chisels and using up a lot of stone to create a calendar that went SO far into the future it became useless for the current residents of their cities. They were probably yanked from the project and put onto something else as the lead holy man told them to leave some fun for the next generations. And they died out before the following generations could have fun with their hammers and chisels. There is no Mayan prophecy saying the world would end - the superstitious are just always looking for signs.
I think it was dauguy who mentioned that originally.
Sorry, Kevin, I am marking this as inappropriate for being asked ad infinitum on this website. If you are interested in what people think you may use the link above to see what the response was the myriad other times it has been asked.
WHY does that make a question inappropriate? If you don't want to answer it, don't answer it... but I see no reason to mark it inappropriate because you think you've seen it too many times in the past. *sheesh*
It is like forcing a class to cover previous material because you can't be bothered to read the text. It forces questions that have NOT gone to world vote down the rankings, and prevents a new question from making it.
It doesn't force any questions down in the rankings unless people vote it up. If nobody thought it was a good question, or it was being asked too often they would not vote it up. That doesn't make it "inappropriate."
But you've still never answered my question. WHY does that make a question inappropriate? If you don't want to answer it, don't answer it... but I see no reason to mark it inappropriate because you think you've seen it too many times in the past. *sheesh*
Participating in comments section even recommends using the search function to see if your question has been asked before. I expect this behavior from newbies, but not from people who have been here long enough to know that this question has not only run before, but is irritating to other community members.
I still don't see that as a reason to mark their question inappropriate. Why are political polls are taken on a daily basis leading up to an election? It's not like the questions haven't been asked before. ;o)
Don't try to justify bad behavior by pointing to other bad behavior. That's like the people who try to justify water-boarding by saying, "well they cut people's heads off... that's worse!"
I don't agree with you that it was bad behavior in the least. I told him I was doing it, and why. It has been done before numerous times, on the same question.
I also don't appreciate your attempt to marginalize me by relegating me to "cute", and thereby attempting to diminish my argument by making a play on words on my avatar.
Actually, I was conflating your avatar with Dick Cheney and Darth Vader. ;o)
I was not trying to relegate you to "cute" I was trying to point out that I consider marking a question as "inappropriate" simply because you feels it has been asked too many times (even though new people to the site have never had the chance to vote on it), to be an abuse of power.
Questions are inappropriate if they violate the "rules," and frequency of repetition is not in the rules, it's just a "suggestion.".

Not at all. Surely you know that Dick Cheney is often conflated with Darth Vader. Surely you know that many feel that Dick Cheney abused his power. Really. I was not trying to marginalize you... I was trying to say that I think you (and dauguy) are abusing your power. And I agree to disagree. ;o)

Marked in appropriate for asked an answered too effin' many times. And kevin is not a new member, he's seen this one go by quite a few times.

Nevertheless, it is my vote, and I shall do with it as I see fit.
It's an abuse of power, I tell you. Apparently the last eight years have rubbed off on you, Darth Fluffy!
Apparently it ran off on the others that removed this question also.

In answer to the first, horseshit.
In answer to the second, we will have to agree to disagree.
