That usually happens in a war on your own territory.
"They died in an air raid in the northern town of Jabaliya..."
"Amid mounting international calls for an end to the violence, Israel allowed the passage of humanitarian aid into the impoverished and overcrowded territory where most of the 1.5 million population depends on foreign aid."
Obviously, these are not battlefields. These are towns, full of poor and overcrowded people. The idea of just leaving where they live so they can get out of the way of Israeli bombs sort of confuses me.

I am not saying Israel was wrong in doing something against hamas. But using fosfor in civilian area's ??? No way that seems like a crime to me. I understand that not all civilian deaths could be avoided but there are instances which raise a lot of doubts and need further investigation. There are also reports about atrocities against political enemies by hamas btw. so those should be investigated as well.
Civilians need to stop supporting a terrorist faction for it's government who fires rockets into Isreal. You can't blame a country for defending itself against aggression.
Innocent citizens are always killed during a war. When and if the U.S. is ever attacked, we will be saying the same thing when our loved ones are injured and killed. I do think it is despicable that Hamas put rocket launchers around populated areas, hospitals and schools, thinking Israel would not attack them. This is a hard one and requires King Soloman to sort out. I don't have an answer.
History shows unequivocally that all sides in every war commit actions that we now consider war crimes. So what? Finger-pointing hasn't been very effective at stopping the problems there, now has it?
Maybe many of you don't know that Gaza is a very small area and its borders are closed from all sides. So, how can Gaza's children and women escape the fosfor bombs for God's sake?
HAMAS were the ones that put their civilians into the battle zone. String THEM up.

Was bringing up a Jewish king who threatened to cut a baby in half the best choice you could have made here?
What? Are you for real? Is this supposed to be a serious question?
It was a serious answer.
When talking about Jews killing children, it does not seem the height of tact to mention someone who was willing to kill a baby to prove a point.
Story is that the Israeli soldiers actually shot the children dead aswell as soon as they raided houses.
On the other hand they could be suicide bombers due to HAMAS forcing them to do this.

Yes, Israel did. Isarel killed more than 400 children.
