I do pray and hope someone is listening. I do this much more often when I am feeling bad. When I am not feeling bad then I am much more likely to express doubts. Pretty weird, huh?
Right now I don't feel good at all so I answered "yes."

I think it's a little weird that you're able to put aside your doubts that way, yes. But I can see why you do it, and I wish I could (in some matters).
Believing is comfortable. Not believing is very uncomfortable. My gut wants it. My brain says it's a lot of baloney. I think the truth may be more along the lines of God is needed by humans just like we need companionship. With God there is *always* someone to talk to about anything that's on our minds. I think a *real* God would understand the dichotomy here and forgive people's doubts. Because I think the way I do I find some organized religions to be very hard pills to swallow. Being that there are hundreds (thousands?) of varieties of Christianity, and many varieties of every major religion is proof to me that many people have doubts... and they "adjust" their beliefs in such a way as to make the pill easier to swallow.
God is easier to accept when you have your own personal sense of God to relate to ~ it is impossible for me (and probably many others) to believe in a God that doesn't understand me better than I understand myself. I am comfortable with the notion God helped me write this. I am also comfortable with Tolstoy's belief that the kingdom of God is within us.

So you use God as a sort of mental aid? I don't think you're the only one.
We probably wouldn't be able to work out the motives of a real god - after all, we haven't yet - but I can't imagine why an entity like that would care about whether we believe it exists.
