Martin Luther King was a great man. But Lincoln and Washington were key presidential figures during a time of uncertainty. They gave amazing strength and vision to our country(USA)--and should really be regarded with solid respect ---unfortunately we have tried to get away from our 'roots' in America. And are erasing our history systematically. Forgetting our founding principles. Very sad---to our detriment.
Certainly all these men are leaders and important to their respective constituencies. Unfortunately, if you ask black activists about celebrating the founding fathers, most would say "they were slave owners and slave traders...they do not deserve to be honored." I personally disagree with this (though I am white, so not sure how much that counts).
Another important observance is that Dr. King is a recent figure in historical terms, so it will be interesting to see how he is remembered in 150 or 200 years. I am sure kids will appreciate the day off school and all (as with President's day), but the fervor we are seeing today vis a vis Dr. King will probably have faded by 2158.
Yes.
Yes,
Yes.....but the White race does not demand it....There is strength in numbers. I really admire the Black race for that.
What's to admire? Giving the majority a huge guilt complex?

Yes. When we ignore history, we are doomed to repeat it. Ignoring the great men of the past in favor of appeasing a particular voting bloc is foolish.
this reminds me of a funny little joke i heard. hate me or call me a racist if you want. just remember you know nothing about me.
"Why do black people only have nightmares? Because the last nigga to have a dream got shot. Happy Martin Luther King Day!"
