Well, deserving it or not, they have certainly gotten one. Except for a temporary and short-lived rebound in the 1990s, real family income after taxes has done nothing but decline in the U.S. since the 1970s.
Deserve? No. Require? Probably. There will be a relative pay cut anyway because to value of the dollar will decline.
I've never understood why people equate things with whether they "deserve" it or not.
