He might not be as Liberal as we think. When the Joint Chiefs speak, Obama listens.

not really a pessimist. just a wacko.

Longer than eight years.

well, lets look at history. how long does it take for america to be fooled by them each time? after the republican great depression, it took 20 years for people to fall for their divisive rhetoric again. then after they were in power for 8 years and we did nothing about sputnik, the dems were able to get things back on track, and the wedge issues worked nicely after only another 8 years or so...

generally, if things are going well economically, the republicans can come back into power because they can fool enough people into thinking that they won't fuck the world up yet another time. but they always do.

Never again, I hope. But that is just wishful thinking.

It depends if they are serious about taking the party in a different direction or not. They need to get back to being the fiscal conservative party, the small government party, and drop the gun-toting, pride in ignorance image they hold among non-supporters.

As an independent looking in, I'm seeing their main opposition rewarding intellect and people skills, while Republican actions imply that it isn't important. That's something that Republicans need to either emulate or find something better.

I guess what I'm trying to say is they need to set clear goals in a new direction and act on them. My vote is an optimistic 8 years for a real turnaround in congress, executive power, and public opinion.
