The answer SO depends on the circumstances. A swat on the bum of a misbehaving child? No problem. Caning? Flogging? Not pro that at all.
There is a BIG difference between a spanking/swatting and physical abuse ( I know this from personal experience ) I see no problem with spanking as a last resort. As far as the death penalty if those people are willing to do those horrible things they need to have that take place because I do not feel that we should pay for their food, college, exercise rooms, TV's, and other things that innocent and law abiding citizens can not have and are still paying for the criminals to have.
Killing someone to teach htat killing is wrong makes as much sense as fucking to protect chastity.

What? No "golden rule?" No "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you?"
Morally I don't have a problem with capital punishment if done correctly. The US doesn't. So I'm against capital punishment because it (among other things) isn't implemented uniformly, costs tax payers many many times more than a life prison sentence, and most people on death row die long before they are executed for their crime.
I agree with plawler and Doreen on corporal punishment. Their is a difference between a swat on the bum or a spanking of a child, which is not intended to hurt but punctuate the severity of their transgression, and hitting someone (child or otherwise) to inflict pain.
How do you do it "correctly?" Drawing and quartering?
I did elaborate on just some of the ways the US does it wrong. None of which had anything to do with the actual method. It is therefor safe to assume I wasn't referring to method of execution.
How do you do it correctly? Employ it uniformly. (not more for one race or social group) Ensure that it is only used when their is no reasonable doubt of guilt/innocence. It should not take decades to carry out from sentencing to execution. There should be less than a 80% chance that the convicted just die in prion waiting on their execution.
