Learned in grade school, and then took piano for years. That was back when music and art were considered part of a well-rounded curriculum. We had singing that concentrated on folk songs so it could tie into history 9The rock Island Line, The Erie Canal, John Henry, Casey Jones, etc.); and we were taught to play an instrument, the Flutophone (a kind of plastic recorder).
I swear, we got out of 6th grade better educated than many high school grads these days.
