Yep. Guys hang in there as long as they think there's a chance, especially so if they know the women regularly hooks up. They think if "they" can "get it" then so can I.
They may pretend it's not important but unless they're gay it really is important and that is true even if they regularly befriend you at work and they are married. Some can be very patient for weeks, months, even years, and at some point when you let your guard down and become vulnerable, ...a few drinks later and they find out whether the long wait was worth it. If at that point you feel violated and let down then the friendship ends, but that is not what they are betting on. They are betting you will fall head over heels for them, realize they were The One all along, and you'll marry them and be fruitful and live happily ever after.
If you ever do strive for a platonic relationship with a man and you know they are not gay then it is absolutely for the best if you never tell them what you do with guys when you're not around them. It only gives them hope that your relationship with them will change someday as well.

I had plenty of men friends when I was working. It isn't always about sex which is what this question is really about.
