The Presidential oath of office is described in Article II, section 1 of the Constitution: Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:--"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
No mention of a bible or other holy book, or even the "so help me God" They went even further in Article VI of the Constitution: The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
It was almost like they thought it was a joke. If you still can go to bild.de (the German paper) and see the comments they have about it. That is if you know anyone that can read German.

You noticed that too?? Good Grief, the media has never even mentioned it. Odd. They spent hours talking about Lincoln's bible.

Why would a bible be of any significance in a political act.
What a silly, outdated, concept (and one polentially offensive to those of other religions, or no religion)
Probably swearing on a copy of the Wall St Journal would be better!
