"-Atheists believe there is no God. Wrong. An atheist is not someone who DOES believe there ISN'T a god, but someone who DOESN'T believe there IS a god. Not believing is something that doesn't require one to believe, and this should come as no surprise."
That's the essential difference and too often both are confused.
Atheists can be both, but the vast majority is atheist in the sense of 'not believing in a god'. People who make a point out of including as little faith as possible in their lifes.
I on the other hand believe the existence of god has not been proven, nor disproved. (Not sure how it could be since I can not disprove the existence of the flying spaghetti monster) I do leave the possibility open there is intelligent life in the universe (I also think that we human are not intelligent, well at least not me)
I don't think so. If a person believes there is some sort of God then they are neither atheist or agnostic. They believe. Belief is God is totally possible without a belief in a religion. The root of atheist or theist is "the" ("god") and if they meant "religion" they would say so, they would not say "God." There is a huge difference between the two words.

i believe that there's something more than just man siting on a cloud and watching us. I believe in god but i can't say that god is just a man. God is some kind of energy that we provide and use (some call it noosphere)...

Even for me, that would be hair-splitting.
There's a fundamental difference.
Believing there is no God requires faith
Not believing in a god requires no faith.
That's the essential difference and too often both are confused.

Sorry, I agree with dauguy. Hairsplitting.

For people passively do not believe there is a perfectly good description: agnostic.

An Atheist is someone who denies the existence of god.
An Agnostic is some one who doubts truth of religion.
But there are gradations in all of them, maybe look it up some time.
Isn't that the same? O_______________________o
Atheists believe in god, but not religion. They don't follow a religion, but still believe there is some sort of god.
Is that so?
Athiest-
–noun: a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings.
Sorry Scruffy, you are wrong.
