If a person has come upon bad times, let the state gov help them out for a period of time until they can get back on their feet.
If you house them and feed them, there is no incentive to do a damn thing but live off the goody-goody feelings of the taxpayers.
I will donate money/food/clothing to the poor people down the street if I know the adults have tried and failed at making a living but only to a point where I find that they are not working at working anymore, then the charity stops.
Think about it, if you obtained a warm roof over your head and three square meals a day, would you bust your arse looking for a job?
Hmmm! I wonder what the Salvation Army kitchen is serving for supper today....

Nope! I gave up on that 'church' thing a long time ago. It was around the time I noticed the pastor was driving a bigger, nicer car than I had and I/we were making close to $100K/year. Something didn't set right with that visual smackdown!
Heck BO... I know just the person you want to see. My vote helped put him in the Oval Office. Now just write him a nice letter and I'm sure he'll make arrangements for everything.
I never give money. But when my wife and I go out to eat downtown and don't want to haul the leftovers all the way back to our apartment (1.5 hr train ride), we box it up and give it to someone who can use it rather than let it go to waste.

You've been listening to those Catholics again haven't you B^)
I never believed a minister and his family should live in poverty.
Sure, and I do, just don't force me to do it.
I give spare change to winos whenever I have spare change to give.

Hey Chip, seeing as you are so generous, maybe you could use your 'spare change' each day and pay for my health care.... what do you think?
