I hosted a German foreign exchange student a few years back, and this was a pet peeve of hers. The kids in our local high school would say moronic things like she was from a third world country (seriously, folks) and she was a Nazi (even though Nazis, and similar hate groups are banned in Germany). I just wondered if this is an issue to any other "third worlders" (sorry...I could resist)

That is why we need to teach more history, and current affairs.

I have always wondered if there was a clear cut definition of what constituted a first, second and third world country.

According to the news, the United States is getting to be worse. There's a recent report about parasites normally found in Third World countries spreading in the US population:

No, not at all. Nor am I offended if I'm called a "honky" or a "cracker" or a dago wop." I'm bigger than that. It's the name callers that have the problem. They just want to be more like me.

LOL, yes! Since I think my country is the epitome of civilization .... OK, j/k there, but only just. Though I have never had contact with anyone ignorant enough to call New Zealand "third world". Though one of my US friends did think it was in Europe ...

In Europe? It seems some are in a Third World of education....

I was gobsmacked I must admit! And she's a smart, college-educated lady. But then a majority of these friends (mostly with a college degree) thought that Henry Ford invented the motorcar, so it does make you wonder a little about what they do actually learn (as opposed to getting taught).
