It wasn't old news when I posted. In addition, that isn't really accurate. The Dems only got about 60% support out of their own party for it. It went down because it was a terrible bill. It will get reworked though, and come back up. So action can still be take.
I don't think anyone killed it really. The Dems have a majority so they can pass it without the Repubs. But there were enough Dems against it that they needed some Repubs. And those Repubs said they were going to vote for it, and then in response to either Pelosi's partisan rant, a sudden realization of morality, or a decision to actually listen to their constituents they changed after it was put up for vote. So you could certainly blame those Repubs who changed after it was put up for vote.
I am also hearing that an important part about bankruptcy writedowns for the taxpayer was pulled from the final bill. And that was one of the things that led to the Dem refections.
