Lyrics can make you (me) like or dislike a song that I might otherwise feel differently about, but they are not the most important part by a long stretch.
Even when the lyrics do not appear to be an integral part of the song, often they are the most integral part of the song. For example the golden oldie, "Tequila," by The Champs. Without the lyrics (uh, lyric?) the song would not be memorable at all. Of course one thing is for certain, those lyrics (uh, lyric?) are indeed memorable (and easy to remember as well). :-)

"I Don't Care" by Ramones has the best lyrics ever written for a rock & roll song.

Lyrics make a good melody a great song.
I believe it is the rhythm that is integral
Some lyrics are great as they fit a way you are feeling at a certain time in your life so you identify and love the song more.
Hearing songs like this years latter take you back.
