No, atheists are insecure about their own beliefs at all. I feel that Christians are more insecure about their religion. Whenever the conversation strikes up, online or offline, they can't come up with good reason why God was so violent towards humans who were "made in his image", and they try to avoid the question.
No, Christians are definitly more insecure, and Athiests aren't insecure at all.
Then why is it that the atheists, like Asroc, are always trying to ridicule religion? Criticisms of Atheism, except in response, are rare. If you want not to believe in God, then please do so, but don't try to push your opinions off on me.
So MikeHend... does that go for all the Christian missionaries too? Are they doing wrong by preaching the gospel throughout the world? Are they so insecure in their belief that they feel they must spread their religion to non-believers throughout the world?
I'm sure from your response that you are quite against Christian missionaries who try to push their opinions off on others, right?

Well you miserable yankee moaning old goat, here you go again with your wild assumptions.
Not that I expect anything more of you by now, but it does puzzle me why you leap from dubious point to dubious point like an hyperactive monkey leaping about in a tree.
An atheist is someone who believes there is no god, yet you assume anyone who does not fit into your view of a christian** must be atheist.
Anyone honest enough to share their opinions, doubts, or feelings automatically becomes your enemy!
Of course the Bible tells you how to treat your enemies, but you are a typical Buffet Christian, you rant on merrily about the bits of the religion you like, but forget any bit you don't like.
You judge others on a daily basis, yet the bible clearly says that is Gods right alone.
Instead of spreading love and encouragement and forgiveness as your saviour taught, all you have in your life is bitterness, condemnation, and hate :(
** Of course based on your posts elsewhere on here, one wonders if you take christianaty seriously at all.
I have read you express a desire to kill someone running away from you in the street.
I have read your fantasy about "an acre of female breasts".
There have been numerous other examples of a very unchristian attitude in the past too.
Really Michael, you should take a lesson from Jesus' own words, and not critisise your brother for the speck of sawdust in his eye, before removing the great woden plank from your own.
There ya go, pointing out yet another of the zillions of contradictions in the "infalible word of God" that you and your misguided fellows like to call the Bible :)
First, how in heck can someone be insecure about not believing? By believing just a teensy little bit?
Sounds a bit strange.
Second, it seems a rather wide brush with which to paint athiests. Are we talking about all of them, then? Or one specific mental model of an athiest- which we call a "stereotype".
Works both ways, though. Why would a non-believer, curious as to why a Supreme Being would be violent towards we humans, assume that the answer is understandable in his own mortal, limited, finite logic and morality? If we are presuming a Supreme Being, then "it is beyond our understanding" is always a possible answer. We are, after all, presuming the existence of a being with intellectual capacity unimaginably beyond our own.
Of course there are the equivalent of religious fundamentalists in the Athiest world just as there are fanatics in the religious one, and they will by nature attack that which they dislike.
In my experience Athiests tend to feel sorry for the religious types, feeling that they are wasting a lot of time, energy and often money too on something flawed and deceptive, and really want to help them see the error of their ways.
While the result of this, generally freindly debate and argument can be seen as threatening or an attack by religious people, the intent is actually benign and even loving.
Of course the religious ones are equally keen to "save" the atheists from everlasting damnation.
We don't know which side has it right, but if both are acting out of compassion for the other, that at least should be praiseworthy!!!
Why do you assume voting down something is an attempt at censorship? I suspect it's just a faster method of posting "disagree", just like voting up is used as a faster way of posting "me too".
It just makes it annoying in my opinion. Instead of following the thread and seeing what comment a subsequent comment was an answer to, yu have to piss about clicking "show comment" all the time.
Making comments hide is for offensive ones, not just differences of opinion.
Besides annonomous actions like that are cowardly :))
Look Old Timer... You are a sexist pig and apparently you hate all things and people that aren't your religion race and gender. So why don't you just shut the f*** up and go to he**. You would hate me sooo much. I am a Muslim, Democrat Girl who HATES YOU. I am not only replying to this Question either.

That is a real hypocrite.

[-5 points] 3 years ago by deleted user ReplyYou shall not kill fifth commandment (or sixth commandment depending on your version of the bible)
Thou shalt not kill.
Doesn't get much clearer than that.
I thought even you could comprehend a simple sentence like that.
Duh!

Well said. :)
Now that is a delayed reaction :))))
Amen. Thank you.
Oh, and generalizations like this question are usually ridiculous. Every group has insecure people and completely secure people.
Oy.

I'm sure that is a deep response.
It is actually.
The fact that you can not see that is at the very root of your problems.

Damn Ben, didn't want to make a dissertation on the subject of Atheists.
Then why post the question?

Now you are sounding like an agnostic, Asroc :).
Which is what I have always claimed to be ... if only people would stop to actually read my posts and not make assumptions
What bunch of pathetic, frightened morons are voting down all the comments in this discussion, in both sides of it???
It really is sad. There si nothing offensive here, just different views.
