Not more stupid, just less broadly educated. Most Americans don't speak a second language (unless they are immigrants!), have little idea of geography, no real history to speak of, less exposure to the sciences, no real exposure to the arts, etc. That of course varies from school system to school system, but I know that in California (one in 11 Americans lives in California), foreign languages, sciences, arts, are all disappearing or gone from the public schools due to the gutting of the tax system back in the 1970s. They went from first in the nation educationally to 41st--even Mississipi spends more per capita to educate its children.
He just doesn't know how many of us are the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Austrian and German immigrants. A lot of other countries blame our willful ignorance on our old-world blood. (lol)

Those oceans keep us quite isolated, don't they? Couple that with 1.5 hours of evening news to keep moderately informed of what's going on just in your own city, state and country - then tack on another hour for world headlines. Sweet Jeez. Too much work - and most of the news is depressing. No wonder we're all on anti-depressants!
I'm American...guess I must be stupid. There's no chance that it's just a sweeping generalization of the American people...no... We're just incredibly stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

I think you are probably right - anyway I'll take your word for it dauguy. And add that you terrible TV does nothing to help.
Amen to that.
You're just watching the wrong shows. Try LOST, House, Battlestar Gallactica, Monk, Psych, Pushing Daisies.
