Yep, this update only covers the results page. Also, none of this kisskiss business or my wife will make me put the maps back. Glad you like the change. :)
Yes, after I've already voted it'd be great if the default tab was overview because, obviously, I can't vote again and if I'm revisiting a vote it's because I'm interested in the current state of play.
Hi Stevemac, we talked internally about flipping you over to Overview after you vote, but it's not as easy as it sounds. Loading Overview right away if you've voted might be possible though, I'll bring it up.
Its been several hours now, and my brain has stopped screaming. The more I work with this, the better and better I like it. MUCH easier to work with - and I like the banner on the side for the questioner's profile, too!
Not exactly related, but any chance of creating a buddy function. The ability to mark certain members as buddies so that you can track their questions more easily might be useful and create more of a sense of community other than the pirates etc.

We've talked about this internally, and the easiest implementation might be having the ability to "follow" someone. Sort of like Twitter. Would that work for you? And perhaps you'd have a page where you could see questions for all the people you're following.
Sounds like a good compromise. It would have roughly the same result. If you like the questions that certain people pose you can track what they're asking.
very good improvements, loads faster and it's easier to get a quick overview. the divider is a little awkward though as ask001 said, maybe a sort of tree/branched/line layout would work better!
Thanks Aaron! In general I am very happy with the changes. The site is a lot faster now the map is not loading by default. I still have to get used to the divider but I'm sure that will happen in time. Nice to see the profile of the person who asks the question. I support Stevemac's idea about buddies perhaps a good idea for one of the next major versions?
Hey everyone, thanks for checking out Ask500People.
Ideas, complaints and suggestions welcome - just click the "Contact us" link at the bottom of this page.
Cheers!

Our goals with this update were:
* Have the page load more quickly (no map by default)
* Make it clearer how to vote (no green tab to find over the map)
* If the question was an "images" question, have the images remain visible after you vote.
* Highlight the answers and conversations happening under the question
* Highlight the user behind the question.
* Display a question's tags on this page.
* Clean up the question itself, up at the top.
Any feedback would be most welcome, and we hope you like the change.

The thing I like, it shows who the comment goes to.

Well done you! :)
It loads way faster. (My brain keeps on insisting that it wants the map, but it will shut up in time.)

Hi dauguy, do you get the new version if you use a different browser?
Okay, got the new version when I got off the home page. LOVE IT!!
NO MORE MAPS!!!
THank you, kisskiss!

I accidentally clicked on "dislike" when I meant to click on like. Keep up the good work Aaron!
Thanks plawler! (BTW if you notice it quickly enough you can change your vote.)
I never saw the old one but I like what I see...
Actually I did, I was wondering what was different this evening...
Now that I see it clearly, any chance of making the Overview the default tab when a question is expanded or perhaps making that user definable?
Hi Stevemac, are you thinking that when you load it up *after* you've voted, it'd be on the Overview?
Loading the Vote tab by default (as we do now) means we get many more votes that way.
Yes, after I've already voted it'd be great if the default tab was overview because, obviously, I can't vote again and if I'm revisiting a vote it's because I'm interested in the current state of play.

Have the developers thought of using a 'voted cookie' that might direct the browser to the overview if you return to a question after you've voted?
Hi Stevemac, just letting you know we implemented this, and are working on a way to click over to Overview after voting as well. Cheers.

Getting used to it, and I like it, maybe you could replace the divider and show lines to show what people are replying to?
Loads way faster here as well
Hi ask001, thanks for the feedback. Are you thinking of vertical lines to show the replies?
Exactly

Yeah, like a "watch" feature. Misterpoll & Quizilla has that, it seems your behind on the times, Aaron!
Only Joking, your doing a great job with the site. :)

Glad you like it pollewop, and thanks for the feedback. We'll take another look at the divider system and talk about a "buddies" concept too.
