In fact not all people are 'created equal'. They should have equal rights but that's not the same thing.

All men are created equal.....what you do with yourself after that point will often reflect upon how you are TREATED.

Right, so when people are treated poorly it's their own fault. Nice attitude. You practice that around the house?

Or did you intentionally limit it to "men"?

Hey, he is a charter member of the "Blame the Victim" club. It is the main philosophical point that Republicans and Libertarians have in common, which is why I have trouble telling them apart.

Look who is talking...the president of "Blame the United States" club. Its the main philosophical point of the Democrats and the Liberals.

Don't know about you, but if I do something wrong, I will apologize and try to make amends. I don't think that is a "Democrat" or "Liberal" philosophical point, just common decency.

But seriously, most cultures that are not based on Christianity think of apology as weakness and will believe that you are surrendering if you apologize.

First off, moron, the US Constitution states "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all MEN are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed"

So its not all "people" are created equal in the constitution, cry about that if you want but that is where the freaking quote comes from. I didn't make it up I just passed it along. If you have a problem with it maybe you can get it changed....good luck.

Secondly, its a fact that people who take care of themselves, are educated, dress well, speak well, and even carry themselves well are treated by society better in general than those who don't. Its not MY attitude per say, its everyone's attitude. Again you can cry about it all you want and try and make this into a personal attack on me but that wont change the facts.

That's the same attitude that abusive husbands have. "Why does she make me hit her?" People get what they got coming to them, huh jon?

Yes, I never had a doubt you'd agree with that attitude.

It is true people do get treated differently based on how they present themselves. That doesn't mean that it is always right and your example is a good, but extreme, example of a case why it is wrong.

Bull! jondough spoke of people with integrity that are a credit to humanity and translate thought he was talking about wife beaters. No wonder he doesn't understand people. He can't tell a wife beater from a good man!

Then why did they pass the Civil Rights Act? Or are you saying that only bad people were prevented from voting because of their skin?

Go back and read my statement again....it says "often reflects upon how you are treated." but it does assume that you believe the first part of the statement. If you dont believe all men are created equal, then you will probably need more laws, such as the civil rights acts.

I disagree. All men are not created equal. Haven't you ever heard the expression, "Size matters"?

Agreed. However, this does not only apply to Americans of course.

Though this concept was originally used to contrast US political beliefs with the Right of Kings, it has come to mean equal before the law.

The phrase was quoted by Martin Luther King, Jr. in his famous I Have a Dream speech, as the "creed" of the United States: I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.

This creed is a belief we reach for as Americans; something we treat as important, not something that is scientific fact.

A fine example of this recently happened in Maine.

Whoa !! The great majority of folks commenting here certainly don't believe in treating all people equal .... so much for love of your fellow "man" or woman or transgender or whatever

Don't we all chose who we befriend? I think the question is how we legislate so that all people are free to pursue happiness without hurting others. i.e. not denying rights based on gender, sexual preference, skin color, religion, etc.

Why do we need legislate everything -- if there isn't a law allowing or prohibiting then it can't be real ? Hurting others can be nebulous - DUI legislates the possibility of maybe hurting someone, states in the US as well as other countries legislate at what age people can get married, which has changed greatly over the years as well as the number of wives allowed.
