It could be one of his objectives. I believe that the high gas prices we experienced the past 9 months were rigged. Oil prices dropped way before gas prices, and then the market clicked in as we stopped taking trips in the car. Waugs, I happen to believe it was a very astute choice. She will relate heavily to all the female voters and the conservative block. Also, she doesn't have a lot of baggage which Obama/Biden can attack. I feel strongly that had it been offered to Romney he would have gladly accepted. I don't know about Pawlenty. I lived in Minnesota 9 years and my feel is that had he been the choice, since MN is a heavily Demo state, he couldn't have even carried Minnesota for McCain. Besides, he likes his job as governor. Romney, on the other hand has nothing to do right now but wait until Ted Kennedy dies and run for the Senate. He almost beat Ted Kennedy a few years ago, if you recall. If you've seen any of Romney's interviews he said he would be delighted to serve as McCains VP. But it was not offered to Romney. In my opinion, Romney nor the others were spooked off by the 84,000 in the stands in Denver. Just the opposite, Romney would have looked at it as a challenge and if they didn't win, he would have given it his best and lined himself up for 2012. Wizard

In today's world, you could say Kobe is the best. There are many great ones out thee in many countries, so even that question and answer is controversial.

Patriotism isn't an either-or proposition. It has many degrees. And

patriotism doesn't have to be a "Do you think your country is the best" issue. That just happens to be how Kobe Bryant answered the question. You can be patriotic for Germany, for example, or for any other country in which you live--meaning love of country, country first, good feelings for your country and so on. I'm an American who has lived in Europe. If I was currently living in Finland, for example, I could feel a love of Finland and for America--dual patriotism. In fact I do feel a love for certain European countries and for all peoples, really, despite the fact I don't live there. I honor them for their ingenuity, love of country, courage, and character. Finland just comes to mind as one I especially admire. So does Scotland and Ireland and Poland and on and on...

No, not "just like the USA." A foreign power, terrorists, invaded a sovereign nation, the USA, on 9/11 in New York and Washington. President Bush retaliated by sending troops first to Afghanistan and then to Iraq. Putting pressure on the Taliban and al Qaeda in their own lands has lessened the danger in the West, particularly in the USA. The US was not the agressor. Little did Bush know how hard it would be to defeat an "ambush-type' enemy, so we're just now trying to decide how to get out with dignity. If Obama is elected, we'll be out in 16 months, defeat or victory thrown to the wind. If McCain prevails, it will be victory with a reasonable timetable.

I should have asked: "Should Russia be 'allowed' to invade Georgia?" Russia violated the sovereign territory of another country. How would Russia like it if Finland, for example, took up residence in the north of Russia? They would be insensed.

World opinion should condemn this action, especially when they say they'll leave and take their good old time...You have to wonder if they plan to leave...Yankee Wizard
