Sigh. Me thinks thou doth protest too much. Please reread my comment above as you missed every point made. I don't need to study the scientific method as I practice it daily as a degreed scientist.
Science isn't about proving anything correct! Please take the time to read Karl Popper's work on Falsifiability. Science proposes Theories to explain Laws and tests Theories to try and prove them WRONG. If a Theory can be tested and cannot be proven wrong, then it is accepted as the most likely explanation for the observed Law until someone else comes along with a better explanation.
The Mayan calendar was written on a wheel. From the beginning of their record of history, they transcribed their astronomical observations on the wheel, round and round. To say that they predicted the end of the world on this date is absurd. They simply ran out of room on their wheel when projecting celestial positions through to Dec. 21, 2012. I guess they figured that was long enough to track/predict star positions for their purposes and didn't bother to make a bigger wheel. GMAFB!
