As apposed to an arrogant absolutist republican, who sank every business he ever ran into the ground, cut funding for education and replaced it with an ineffective ruse called "No Child Left Behind" and handed over our government to corporate interests who cannot be held culpable for their actions?)
Yes, he accomplished many of his goals... and we're feeling the effects of his first year in office right now.
Strength does not make one right, or necessarily effective.
What about the green party, or an independent? We have too few choices.
I don't think a party can ever lead us in the right direction because they focus too much on dogma and politics and not enough on effective solutions. The Liberals think that the only way to solve all problems is through social programs. The Conservatives think that the only way to solve all problems is by free market solutions. That's like saying that all screws require a #2 flat head screw driver. What about screws that require a philips head, allen wrench? What about different sized screws? What about bolts, pegs, and nails?
Each issue has different variables and requires different solutions. Who cares what group, or emotional baggage is attached to a certain idea... we should apply what is most effective based on the variables of each issue and how they relate to the over all picture. We should judge solutions based on their effectiveness and not who says them.
Because of this, only an individual who has the skills of critical analysis and thinks for him/herself in a rational manner will lead this nation in the right direction.
The American dual party system is broken, if it ever really worked at all. We need at least three VIABLE parties.
According to the Drake equation, the probability of intelligent life (approximate to us) existing somewhere in the known universe is almost 100%. The probability of it being close enough to us for us to detect it - in the vast and unimaginably massive universe - is incredibly slim. So, is there intelligent life out there? Most likely. Have they been here before? Not a chance. Will we ever meet? Very, very improbable, but remotely possible.
