I'm from Michigan. I am a "Michigander" (Michiganian if you like, but then I throw you off the Mackinac Bridge). Read my other comment; I meant it in the context of being *from or born in* Hawaii. And, actually, to follow on from your other comment, I would certainly call a white person from India an Indian. They are Indian by nationality, if not by ethnicity.

Also, I fail to understand why everyone makes such a big deal out of such an incredibly minor issue. It was meant jokingly; can we please take five minutes to carefully consider the meaning of the word "hu-mor" before carrying on?

Someone from Alaska is "Alaskan". Someone from California is "Californian". Someone from Iowa is "Iowan". It is entirely appropriate because I did not mean it in the context of "a person who is ethnically Hawaiian", as I explained.

While we're at it, let's require everyone to have their teeth pulled as soon as they come in (to avoid biting), have all limbs amputated (you could punch or kick someone!), and why not just stick an ice pick through everyone's brain so we're all just vegetables? Then we REALLY won't be able to hurt one another...
