No. This is not the evolution of a word. This is a propaganda and manipulation which should not be accepted. The word was first used by the video industry when videos were being copied, so as to try to force on us the belief that it was as serious as piracy. They have tried to describe it as theft, robbery or shoplifting in several advertisements. Their aim is to make them legally the same. This is not evolution. When something is stolen the owner has no further use of the item. This is not the same as a word having different connotation. Calling abortion murder is not the evolution of the word but to legally equate the two or, calling a prisoner of war an enemy combatant to avoid giving privileges.

Even the fact that laws like SOPA have being contemplated is because of the trying to elevate copyright infringement to a serious offence LEGALLY . We should not accept this sheepishly.

A College degrees is an imperative. While some in the West are trivializing higher education, Indian and Chinese students are attending Universities in droves. When the economy picks up, whenever, there is going to be a massive demand for high quality workers. The US as we speak is experiencing a shortage of highly skilled workers and has to allow in immigrants on special status because someone sometime ago said it was unnecessary to go to college. In 10, 20, 30 years you and the nation will reap the benefits. The benefits of College education is not necessarily monetary in the short term. In fact very few PhDs are millionaires. The benefit of education to society in the long term is invaluable. Invest in your mind. No one can take it away from you.

The entire furore proceeded on the bases of two premises and options. Raise the debt ceiling or do not raise the debt ceiling.

It settled on raising the debt ceiling and the alternatives were cut spending or raise taxes.

It precipitated in cut spending: which had two alternatives cut federal social spending or do not cut social spending.

This is what has been happening all the time without mentioning the elephants in the Federal budget. Absolutely nothing changed. Exactly what has bee done over and over again.
