According to John Halpin, senior advisor on the staff of the Center for American Progress, "Progressivism is an orientation towards politics, It's not a long-standing ideology... but an historically-grounded concept... that accepts the world as dynamic." Conservatives are static, or at least dynamic only within rigid boundaries (e.g. the concrete constitution, the bible, etc.) I have no idea what your definition of progressivism, but I suspect it is not the one shared by most people.
When you're talking about defending the rights of the innocent-blah-blah-blah it sounds like rhetoric rather than considered policy. You are being vague about "respect for life" and even more so about "rights vs. preferences".
It seems like you are inventing new, personal definitions of what a liberal or conservative progressive is.
Abrahamic religions most certainly do eschew responsibility - they tell you to behave or else God will punish you. But they also say that if Allah/Yahweh/Jesus feel a bit soft for you they can forgive you and make it all better. If you're Catholic you can even go to confession and it's all good again. Atheists have to live with their mistakes, knowing that if they've killed someone that person is gone and no amount of praying is going to make things better.
