When you say "our side" I presume you mean Republican. I would have preferred a different man, also. He has been around the circuit once and was not acceptable the first time. We didn't like him then, so why do we like him now?
The US needs so many improvements in it's infrastructure that those should come first then consider helping other countries. Of course major disasters are a different thing, altogether. Compassion for the sick and dying tells the "health" of any society.

All people have elements of good and evil within themselves and are capable of both.
