I'm non-religious, but i don't have kids however, If the kid was slightly older i would tell them the deceased had returned to where they were before they were born - and we do not know for sure where that is - all we do know for sure is that they are still a part of this great and beautiful mother earth and their life was the earth expressing itself in an amazing way over the course of their life, and that is to be celebrated over, not sad.

Apparenty it is derived from the Greek "ouranos" meaning "sky".
